Curriculum Committee Guidelines
The guidelines and procedures adopted by the Curriculum Committee are designed to enable it to conduct its business in an orderly fashion and to reach its decisions after due deliberation on the basis of full information. The rules and procedures governing the operation of the Curriculum Committee give members of the faculty, and especially members of the Curriculum Committee, guidance concerning the rules and procedures regulating the adoption, revision and deletion of courses and curricula at Bronx Community College. These procedures and by-laws of Bronx Community College that pertain to curriculum constitute the general framework within which the guidelines and procedures that have been adopted over the years by the Curriculum Committee are intended to bring about orderly and thoughtful conduct of its business.
The procedures require that all proposals are to be in writing and contain the information as specified on these web pages. Procedurally, at least two weeks must pass between submission of a proposal and a vote on the proposal. The Committee uses criteria for acceptance of proposals as outlined on the following page.
The action of the Curriculum Committee is reported to the Senate and recommendations are presented by the President of the College to the University Office of Academic Affairs, which reviews all curricular proposals and changes. Endorsed curriculum proposals are then sent to the CUNY Board of Trustees for approval. New and revised curricula are then sent to the New York State Education Department (SED) for review.
