Curriculum Committee Philosophy
The philosophy which guides the work of the Curriculum Committee is expressed in the following statements:
Curricular offerings should reflect CUNY and SED mandates and our faculty's interpretation of these. Certainly, our goal is to serve the educational needs of our community. Some of the important yardsticks for the educational needs are:
- student requests for certain courses or curricula,
- job opportunities for given curricula,
- the faculty's principles concerning academic curricula.
It is clear that curricular offerings reflect to a large extent the character of a college. Our curricula must reflect a realistic balance between the needs of liberal arts and technology, transfer and career choices, adult education and recent high school students, etc. These considerations must be made by the entire faculty and must supersede the interests of a given department.
