The grant funded Student Technology Assistance Program offered through the Information Technology Department, hired twelve students to be interns this semester.
Tyron Burke, Luis Diaz, Jonathan Guerra, Melvin Lugo, Betty Mendoza, Ivelisse Pena, Angel Perez, Sokha Puth, Elvis Rodriquez, Marsha Sutherland, and Jessica Torres are all performing internships in their respective concentrations within the field of Computer Science.
These students were required to attend a one-week technical training program, conducted by the BCC IT Department staff, prior to an assignment. Interns trained in areas such as networking, telecommunications, HTML, Dreamweaver, and customer service skills.
Several students are engaging in assignments in networking computer equipment in all departments on-campus, as well as learning and participating in cabling and wiring, installing computers, repairing and setting-up computers, and troubleshooting techniques for both hardware and software.
Other students are involved in web design and are learning Dreamweaver, HTML coding, graphic design, and are working with computer databases. Under the supervision of a member of the IT Department, students are actively participating and learning from this paid and credited internship.
This internship has been instrumental for students majoring in Computer Programming and Computer Information Systems in providing them with real life, hands-on experience that they can leverage when they leave BCC. The program began accepting students just last semester, and many of those students, especially graduating students, have continued with the program this semester. Those include Rabeya Akhter, Kelvin Contreras, Celia Diaz, Yumilka Mogena, Joaquin Ramirez, and Ana Rodriquez.
CONGRATULATIONS STUDENTS!!!

BCC Students Excel In Internships and In Their Careers - February 2003
Students keep striving and achieving greater career heights as a result of doing an internship.
Jasmin DeJesus, BCC ‘03, concluded an internship with the Young Adult Institute For People with Disabilities (YAI), and was hired as a Data Entry Clerk (her major is computer information systems). She will also be continuing her studies at a senior college to learn other essential applications and thus, advance in her career.
Aristeida Rodriquez, BCC ‘02, will be hired as a part-time bookkeeper at the Cherry Tree Association as a result of the accounting internship she performed there last semester.
Margarita Marte-Rios, BCC ‘03, was also hired as a part-time bookkeeper at Ymar International, Inc. Ms. Rios plans to continue her studies once she completes her associate's degree this spring.
Joaquin Ramirez, BCC ‘02, will be hired as a College Assistant at the BCC Information Technology Department as a result of the internship he did there last semester through the Student Technology Assistant Program.
Although it is not a guarantee that internship sites will offer a permanent position to students, many have gotten a permanent position after their internship was concluded.
Importantly, employers have taken notice of our student’s talents, and have given them a chance to begin their careers or continue acquiring further skills in order to make a successful transition into the workforce!
