research is inquiry or research conducted to improve the quality of education.
It is typically designed and carried out by teachers who attempt to improve
their own practice. Action research can generate genuine and sustained
improvements in educational settings. It gives educators new opportunities
to reflect on and assess their teaching; to explore and test new ideas,
methods, and materials; to assess the effectiveness of the new approaches,
and to share feedback with fellow practitioners through contributions
to the scholarship of teaching. The focus of action research is to expand
the teacher's role as inquirer about teaching and learning through systematic
classroom research. The CTE’s Action Research Institute will lead
to participants designing an investigation of student learning in their
own classrooms. This may include the conditions under which learning occurs,
what learning looks like, and how to deepen it. The purpose is to both
improve student performance in a particular classroom and to disseminate
findings to the larger professional field.
