NOTE: these courses are designed to assist those students who score between a 65-74 on their ELA Regents exam.
This course serves three purposes: 1) to acquaint students with the writing of a college-level essay; 2) to prepare the students to sit for and pass the CUNY-wide writing proficiency examination (or CATW); and 3) to sufficiently prepare them to pass the ELA Regents should they have not. To accomplish this, ENG 02 provides extensive writing practice in response to a wide variety of readings, with an emphasis on paragraph development, structure, and thematic unity. Students will learn to develop paragraphs through styles such as narration, illustration, comparison-contrast, process, cause and effect, and argumentation. In addition to the above, students who pass ENG 02 will be eligible to register for ENG 11, our 3-credit course, or any number of our other college credit offerings. Most importantly, students who successfully complete this course will have put themselves in a position to test themselves out of remediation in college reading and writing courses.
