Defining What Matters

What Matters Most to BCC Math Professor Rony Gouraige?

“My students. I want them to attain their goals in life. I want them to develop as human beings and critical thinkers. I want them to love mathematics. I want them to understand that with effort and perseverance, one can accomplish many things, both great and small. Most important, I want them to never give up, no matter how daunting the challenge or insurmountable the odds.”

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Meet Associate Professor Rony Gouraige, who joined BCC in the spring of 2003 as a substitute lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. He is currently teaching Math 31, Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1, and two sections of Math 05, Elementary Algebra, for the Spring 2015 semester.

“Math is not just my profession, it is my passion, “ says the former economics and political science major who had a 12-year career in banking before enrolling in Hunter College as a full-time math major. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the Graduate Center of The City University New York. “Teaching mathematics to my students and working with colleagues who are dedicated scholars with a commitment to helping students is a dream job for me.”
