AUGUST 26, 2016 — Bronx Community College is observing the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States with a forum entitled "Democracy, Freedom, and Security: Reflecting on September 11." The event features members of "Peaceful Tomorrows," relatives of three of the 2,753 victims who perished at the World Trade Center:
Ms. Kelly is co-founder of the group called "Peaceful Tomorrows." "Their main goal is to honor their family members by finding ways to promote peace," says Assistant Professor Mara Lazda. Professor Lazda, an organizer of the event, is a member of BCC's Department of History and will be making introductory remarks. "What do we do with these memories and how do we keep the conversation going instead of retreating back into fear?"
The audience is encouraged to share their own memories of and reflections on 9-11.
The forum will be held on Wednesday, September 7th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in Room 211 of the Roscoe Brown Student Center. It is the first event in the 2016-2017 "BCC President's Conversation Series on Democracy and Freedom," a monthly forum sponsored by the Office of the President, with faculty from the History Department. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. For further information, contact: Mara.Lazda@bcc.cuny.edu or 718.289.5653.
