C.O.P.E

C.O.P.E. is a collaboration between The City University of New York (CUNY) and The City of New York Human Resources Administration (HRA) that provides supportive services to CUNY students receiving public assistance. The goal of C.O.P.E. is to help students meet CUNY college standards and HRA work obligation, in order to enhance their chances of graduating and achieving long term economic self-sufficiency through gainful employment. C.O.P.E. provides the following support services to all students receiving public assistance benefits.

A)

  • Assist with freshman advisement and registration so our C.O.P.E. students have direct knowledge about the program and the guidelines HRA has developed for their course work
  • Provide academic and personal counseling
  • Job preparation and job placement referrals
  • Child care referrals
  • Act as liaison with HRA
  • Assist students regarding TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Family) obligations and develop a plan to meet the TANF requirement while pursuing college studies
B)

Job placement services are available to any CUNY C.O.P.E. student who is currently pursuing a degree and who is currently receiving TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Family), Safety Net (formerly Home Relief) benefits or falls in the 200% poverty line bracket (Food Stamps, Medicaid, SSI or Unemployment) Services include full or part-time job openings in a wide variety of fields, resume writing and interview preparation, individuals job counseling, employment workshops, fulltime job search program, post-employment follow up for at least 90 days.
