BCC Speech, Drama and Debate Team Takes the Bronze
The BCC Speech, Drama and Debate Team brings home 3rd Place at the New York-New Jersey State Speech Championship!
Two Bronx Community College students Wali Ullah and Dapo Ibrahim from the Speech, Drama and Debate under the direction of faculty advisor Carmen Meyers competed in the New York-New Jersey State Speech Championship this past weekend. The event on February 4, 2017 was hosted by Hofstra University and ten schools from the region participated. In twelve hours of speech competition, this prestigious state tournament not only defines the state champion but is a feeder tournament for the National Championship of the Interstate Oratorical Association, the oldest speech competition in the United States. Our students went toe to toe against schools such as Columbia, Cornell, and Rutgers University. In a rigorous day of competition with over 60 students, Wali Ullah's persuasive speech on supporting down-ballot elections placed fifth in round one and third in round two. Dapo Ibrahim's informative speech on the effects of virtual and integral reality technology on society placed fifth in the first round and he battled to fourth place in his second round. The day ended with BCC bringing home third place in the community college team sweepstakes. The school is proud to celebrate the dedication, stamina and exemplary performance of our students at this state championship event and look forward to more outstanding work from these two young men. Congratulations!
