Clio - The History Club:

CLIO (the History Club) seeks to promote an interest in history among Bronx Community College students.  Each spring the History Club sponsors a trip for 10 to 12 students, organized by Queens College Hillel, to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. In addition, the Club sponsors a number of events throughout the semester designed to help students succeed in their history courses at BCC.  Activities include the following:

• Films: The History Club film series features works selected to focus on an important period in history, or which expand upon topics covered in the History 10/11 course. In the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters, the History Club film series was incorporated into the broader BCC initiatives commemorating the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War.
  
  
• Workshops: The club sponsors a series of skills workshops led by the members of the History Department. These include two guides to writing the Identifications required on the History 10/11 syllabus, and an essay writing workshop. Other workshops include writing workshops, map reading workshops, and an introduction to eHerodotus. Additional workshops may be scheduled in response to student desires.
  
  
• Schedule:  The Club meets during club hours on a monthly basis, with meetings chaired by a Club officer in the absence of the faculty advisor. Meetings function as tutoring sessions that enable the students to be more academically successful in their history classes, and to deepen their knowledge of historical topics.
