The Information Technology Department (IT) has operational, strategic and fiscal responsibility for the innovation, implementation and advancement of technology at the College. Divided into three main areas, (1) Network Administration & End-User Support, (2) Instructional Services and (3) Information Systems, the IT Group is customer-centered and driven by its commitment to students, faculty and staff. IT services include the wiring, installation and maintenance of all telephone, computer network and alarm systems, in addition to the installation and support of standard software applications such as e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets. The Department supports many mainframe applications and coordinates workshops in the use of these programs, the Internet and other technology programs. The Information Technology Department is also responsible for the staffing and maintenance of all public Academic Computing labs.
The IT Department will continue to pursue:
- the use of information technology to enable a time and location-independent, learner-centered environment where learners will be able to access course content, obtain advice and guidance and access student services using a variety of methods, including those mediated by information technology;
- a network-centered computing environment, where all information services will be seen as standard network services originating from a single source; and
- the continued testing of a mobile and wireless computing environment, where all members of the BCC community will be able to access network services from anywhere, at any time, both on campus and off.
