Tria Case

Tria Case, Esq.
Tria Case, serves as the Executive Director for the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) located at Bronx Community College. Under her direction, CSE has been named the action arm for the City of New York in their partnership with the Department of Energy's Solar America City Initiative. Ms. Case was also recently named the Executive Director for the CUNY Sustainability Project, The City University of New York's commitment to reducing their emissions by 30% in ten years. Ms. Case sits on the board of the Clean Alternative Energy New York (ACE NY) Board as well as the board of the New York City and Lower Hudson Valley Clean Cities Coalition.   Ms. Case was formerly the New York State Environmental Ombudsman and Director of the Office of Environmental Business Services for the Empire State Development Corporation, New York State's economic development authority. Ms. Case was instrumental in the development of State and federal voluntary compliance initiatives and worked closely with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the development of brownfields redevelopment policy and New York State's Title V air permitting regulation.    Ms. Case has represented New York State on advisory groups for the Council of Great Lakes Governors and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Ms. Case is also the founder of Solar Northeast/Solar New York, a not for profit corporation aimed at accelerating New York's transition to a renewable energy based economy through large-scale investment in solar energy. Ms. Case received her undergraduate degree from Union College and earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School where she was awarded the LSPIN Fellowship to work on the Love Canal litigation.

Michael Seliger, Ph.D., Assistant Dean of Planning and Program Development in Bronx Community College’s Institutional Development Division, has over 35 years of experience as a planner; educator; evaluator; program developer; trainer; and producer of written and audiovisual training and informational materials. His experience includes directing Weatherization Program evaluations from Maine to Virginia; supervising monitoring of energy conservation measures during the energy crisis during the Carter Administration; and serving as Administrative Director (stateside liaison) for a Peace Corps training center located in Honduras. In his sixteen year association with Bronx Community College, Dr. Seliger had major responsibilities in the planning and development of the College’s 40,000 Sq. ft. Educational Opportunity Center and an adjacent 78-child child care center. He is charged with similar responsibilities with regard to the Center for Sustainable Energy. He has spearheaded development of successful partnerships between the College and local Housing, Community Development, and Head Start agencies, and participated in borough-wide planning efforts related to educational and economic development. He has also taught introductory and advanced field seminar courses in the College’s Human Services Department.

Reid Strieby

Reid Strieby, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at Bronx Community College and Adjunct Professor in the NOAA CREST program, Cooperative Remote Sensing Service and Technology Center, City College of New York, CUNY. Dr. Strieby is also the P.I. on the Environmental Entrepreneurship program at BCC sponsored by NOAA. He has also served as P.I. on the Energy Services Technology project at BCC sponsored by DOE/PETE and as Co-Director of the Environmental Technology program at BCC. Dr. Reid Strieby directs the NYC Youth-in-the Environment program sponsored by the EPA (Region II) and the NYC/DEP. He was selected to become an ATTEC Fellow in the summer of 1999 (Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center) sponsored by NSF. In the past, he has directed the Tech Prep program at the college and coordinated the committee on Allied Health programs.

Luis Torres, currently serves as the Associate Director for Community and Public Affairs. Previously, he served as a consultant, program associate and senior associate to the Center. In 2005, Luis was awarded the Sustainable Energy Pioneer award by the Center. From 1998 through 2002 Luis served as Special Counsel to Congressman Jose E. Serrano of the Bronx. During his tenure in the Congressman’s office, Luis worked primarily on environmental justice issues, particularly the advancement of alternative fuel use in the South Bronx, the predominant area of Rep. Serrano's congressional district. Luis aided in the Congressman’s role as champion for clean fuels legislation at the national level, but also worked on regional and local efforts to promote alternative fuel use. On behalf of Congressman Serrano, Luis facilitated in the development of a coalition of organizations committed to the reduction of pollution caused by fossil fuel-burning vehicles and power plants. Luis helped organize alternative fuel events aimed at advancing the alternative fuel choice of business and government. These events included the Clean Fuels in the Bronx conference in 2000 at Bronx Community College, as well as a similar program in 2002 at Hostos Community College in the Bronx.

Wilson Rickerson

Wilson Rickerson, is the Center for Sustainable Energy’s Policy Advisor and specializes in state and municipal climate change and energy policy. Wilson assists the Center with policy research, and in its role as a resource for City government. As the Center’s Program Associate during 2005-2006, Wilson helped coordinate the City University of New York’s Million Solar Roofs Initiative and led the Center’s solar energy policy and market research efforts. He also launched the Center’s RETScreen software training program and conducted an energy operations assessment of CUNY’s three Bronx campuses. Policy research conducted by the Center has been presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences, including the International Solar Energy Society, the International Solar Cities Congress, and the American Wind Energy Association’s WINDPOWER conference. Wilson earned his Masters in Energy and Environmental Policy in 2005 at the University of Delaware.

Henry Frisz, Ph.D., is founder and coordinator of the BCC’s Automotive Technology Program and serves as liaison between program and industry groups including dealerships, repair shops, fuel suppliers, and various stakeholders such as NYC Departments of Sanitation and Transportation, NY-NJ Port Authority, and Bronx Borough President’s Office. He coordinates instruction and facility planning, ensures curriculum is current and meets needs of industry/employers. Dr. Frisz serves as outreach and information liaison to High School Automotive Technology Programs. He represented Bronx Community College on the Planning Task Force of the Bronx Borough President’s Office, with regard to alternate fuel vehicle policies and applications, which led to the formation of BRAVE-I, a permanent alternative energy advisory group; and expansion into New York City’s Clean Cities designation in 2003.

Laurie Reilly, handles communications and special projects for the Center for Sustainable Energy and is responsible for drafting technical documents as well as assisting with organizing major sustainable energy events and presenting at conferences.   Ms. Reilly is also the Communications Director for the CUNY Sustainability Project and the author of multiple key sustainability documents. Ms. Reilly spent 18 years as a broadcaster and won five New York State Broadcaster's Awards as a writer, producer and anchor for providing in depth coverage on science, technology, health and politics on both television and radio. Ms. Reilly developed 'The Tech Valley Update', a series that focused on innovation, technology and alternative energy. She also created 'Innovate', in partnership with NYSERDA, a campaign designed to interest young adults in the STEM degrees; science, technology engineering and math. Ms Reilly also moderated panel discussions on behalf of the State University of New York at Albany and produced and hosted frequent round table discussions and specials for radio and television on the topics of nanotechnology, science, economic development and sustainable energy.

Carmen Ortiz, is the Center for Sustainable Energy Office Administrator. She manages accounts and files for the Center's business, personnel and financing records. Ms. Ortiz has 20 years experience at Bronx Community College in office management, public relations and program support.
