About the Office of Instructional Technology
The Office of Instructional Technology (OIT) is a unit of
the Office of Academic Affairs and an integral part of Bronx Community College's academic mission. Recognizing
that our responsibility as educators includes providing students with the technology skills and fluency
needed to succeed in 21st century educational and work environments, we develop and deliver programs
that support faculty in the application of digital technologies as tools for teaching and learning. Our
activities include a range of programs that help faculty work--individually and collaboratively--to develop
new instructional methods, both in the classroom and online. Our staff includes Faculty Mentors who assist
colleagues in specific program areas as well as full-time instructional technology professionals. The
fundamental premise of all our activities is that technology is never an end in itself, but that academic
goals should always determine how technologies are used
- Provide leadership for instructional technology integration, instructional
design for digitally-supported learning (in classrooms or online), and sustained professional development
for faculty members seeking skills to support these efforts;
- Support BCC's ongoing efforts to integrate digital and information
literacy skills in all instructional programs;
- Sponsor workshops, one-on-one consultation services, and extended course
development programs that strengthen technology integration planning, curricular redesign, and technical
skills;
- Provide administration and training for the Blackboard online learning
management system;
- Research and disseminate new methods, strategies, and technologies
which enhance teaching and learning.
We are always interested in new ideas. Please get in touch and let us know what you're doing and thinking.
