International Education Week

Bronx Community College began its official, annual celebration of International Education Week (IEW) in 2005.  IEW is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education to “celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.”  Schools, colleges and universities around the globe celebrate international education week during this designated time.

BCC’s programs, events and activities engaged all segments of the College community – students, faculty and staff – and benefited from the participation of virtually all academic departments. The following themes were highlighted from 2005-2008: Global Citizenship through Tolerance and Understanding (2005), Everyone Makes a Difference (2006), Genocide: Fighting Back (2007), and Perspectives on War (2008).

In 2009, the National Center for Educational Alliances’ Global Initiative Steering Committee unveiled the annual Global Perspectives program which will celebrate global issues year-round, including during International Education Week. The Department of Education and Reading has taken leadership in using International Education Week to highlight issues that are important for our future teachers. Other global activities from our Global Perspectives series will also be presented during this time.
