Frequently Asked Questions

1.   Is Orientation mandatory?

Yes, it is mandatory for all first-time, transfer and re-admit students to attend one of the five Orientation sessions. The BCC orientation program is designed to help you become informed and connected when you begin classes. Orientation is a vital part of transitioning into college life, and those who do not attend are at a great disadvantage when the academic year begins.

2.   Why is Orientation important?

The primary purpose of orientation is to orient you to your new life at BCC. We will offer workshops to introduce you to resources and services that will help you explore your future academic, career and personal choices. We will also provide information on academic policies, expectations and procedures so that you understand your options as a student at the college. Orientation also includes interactive activities, group discussions, and other opportunities to help you to connect with your peers and become acclimated to the BCC community.

3.   How do I place a reservation for a New Student Orientation Session?

You will place a reservation on the web at:

http://wa01.bcc.cuny.edu   (you must have your email ID and password to access OSSES). If at any time you need to reschedule your reservation date, you can simply log back into the system and make the change. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation notice.

4.  What should I do when I arrive on campus for Orientation?

Once on campus, go directly to the building that is on your confirmation notice.
Public Safety Officers, who are located at both entrances, will be available to direct you as needed. In addition, follow the signs and the colorful balloons.

5.  How do I interpret the building locations on campus?

Locations on campus that you will see on class lists, rosters and other correspondence are listed with a building code.
