Reading, Learning & Thinking Seminars
The Reading, Learning, and Thinking Seminars is a faculty development program across the disciplines that focuses on a repertoire of learning strategies and related outcome measures designed to enhance student learning. We have developed a framework that integrates theory and research from reading comprehension, study skills, cognition, metacognition, and critical thinking. Faculty from diverse disciplines review the essential cognitive strategies students need to attend, receive, store, and remember information, as well as the higher order thinking skills necessary to elaborate upon what is comprehended. During the seminars, each participant develops and refines instructional techniques most relevant to their subject area. To date, over sixty faculty members from various disciplines from both the Bronx and Lehman campus have participated in this faculty development offering.
