Graduate Success Initiative (GSI)

About GSI

The COPE Graduate Success Initiative (GSI) is a retention and graduation program designed to help motivated Bronx Community College students achieve their personal and educational goals.

GSI program provide services to help second-year COPE student's complete college successfully and transition into the workforce with confidence.

GSI Benefits

GSI provides students with a comprehensive plan of action which includes exemption from work activities (WEP); allowing students more time to focus on academic preparation.

GSI students are able to devote more time to their studies and can focus on the practical and social skills that will effectively prepare them for a competitive work force.

GSI give students a community of peers, staff and faculty that actively engage in learning together and learning from each other.

COPE students typically have greater demands on their time with academic, work, and family responsibilities. GSI provides students a network of support and resources:

  • Free use of Laptops
  • Free monthly MetroCard for the academic year
  • Financial assistance towards textbooks each semester
  • Tuition assistance (if qualified)
  • Tutoring and other student support services
  • Study groups
  • Summer courses
  • Peer mentoring
  • Weekly senior seminars
  • Priority registration and guaranteed class schedules
  • Advisement and ongoing assessment
  • Professional development and career planning support
  • Social services support/individual counseling
  • Personal academic advisement
  • Job placement assistance

Eligibility Requirements

GSI students must have the following:

  • Between 30 and 45 units (credits) towards completion of an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Associate in Sciences (A.S.) degree with no more than 50 units (credits) towards their degree.
  • A Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
  • Eligibility for at least 2 semesters of TAP and PELL.
  • Meet all HRA requirements.
