Mission

The New York Metropolitan Sustainable Energy Consortium (NYMSEC), as founded by Bronx Community College of the City University of New York, Farmingdale State University of New York and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, seek to unify city, state, federal, private, public, & non-profit organizations in a common vision of improving society's awareness of sustainable energy through the advancement and development of energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy practices. This is accomplished through collaboration and joint ventures across all disciplines and industries. NYMSEC celebrates the programs of individual member parties, while honoring the founding objectives which we have in common. We acknowledge that the strength of our consortium lies both in our diversity and in our common objectives.

Common Objectives

  • WORK-FORCE DEVELOPMENT: Educate, graduate, and qualify students and technologists at all levels so they may pursue successful and challenging careers in a sustainable energy economy.
  • PUBLIC OUTREACH & AWARENESS: Promote sustainable energy lifestyles through public outreach and educational programs including K-12 instruction; Link sustainable energy related industries with the society at large through testing, demonstrations and through associated educational programs; Develop outreach programs which educate students, teachers, companies and individuals about sustainable energy technologies.
  • FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES: Make effective use of public and private grants, subsidies, and other funding opportunities through joint ventures and proposal development.
  • PARTNERSHIPS: Develop partnerships with other public and private entities possessing common interests in supporting the sustainable energy economy; Support, engage and provide a test platform for companies interested in being part of a sustainable energy economy; Foster internship and / or scholarship opportunities.
  • RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT: Support research and development activities of new sustainable energy technologies at member and partner organizations.
  • LABORATORIES & FACILITIES: Establish fully operational and functional facilities at each member's institution which demonstrates cutting edge, advanced prototype and market-available alternative energy technologies.
