GENERAL DUTIES
The Vice President is responsible for one or more major College divisions and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. He/she incorporates innovative practices into plans and strategies and collaborates with other College and University executives, and outside organizations as needed, to develop appropriate policy and acquire resources. He/she is a dynamic leader of an executive team responsible for personnel, budget, operations, and communications.

Bronx Community College (BCC) of the City University of New York
(CUNY), established in 1957, is a comprehensive urban community college serving a multicultural student body of over 11,000 on a beautiful 40+ acre landmark campus in the University Heights section of the north Bronx. Bronx Community College serves students of diverse backgrounds, preparations, and aspirations by providing them with an education that is both broad in scope and rigorous in standards. Our mission is to give our students the foundation and tools for success, whether they choose to continue their education and/or enter a profession immediately upon graduation and to instill in them the value of informed and engaged citizenship and service to their communities. BCC provides opportunities for success through 33 academic programs and 7 certificate programs with a full-time faculty of approximately 300.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost provides leadership and support to all areas related to academic matters. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost is a member of the President's Cabinet and the College Personnel & Budget Committee, which oversees the appointment, reappointment, tenure, and promotion of faculty. The Vice President must be able to articulate a community college vision, mission, and philosophy and work effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies to achieve the mission of the College.
The successful candidate will lead the academic division of the College, supported by deans, chairpersons and directors of various units. S/he will be responsible for supervising 15 academic departments. S/he will also oversee the various centers and institutes as well as collaborative projects such as various high school programs, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, Center for Sustainable Energy, and a host of educational alliances. S/he also oversees the Academic Success Center which provides students with academic program advisement as well as an array of academic support services. The Vice President will articulate the long-term vision and strategic plan to guide the development of Academic Affairs within the College by reviewing, developing, and implementing strategic priorities that are consistent with the long-term plans of the College. S/he will oversee academic policy, establish standards for the quality of academic programs, and maintain educational excellence. In addition, the Vice President will provide oversight and take responsibility for the recruiting, hiring, retention, and performance of top quality faculty and academic administrators. This position is available as early as May 1, 2013.
In consultation with the President and the Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance, s/he will determine budgetary priorities and develop an annual budget for the Division. S/he will provide leadership and institutional development support to faculty and deans to create a strong, integrated team focused on quality instruction and quality support services leading to student success. S/he will assist the President with institutional development efforts.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost will foster collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and external communities to advance the College. In addition, the Vice President will represent the College on CUNY-wide committees and national and international programs and initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The Vice President will have prior experience with understanding demographics that affect higher education, and have the ability to articulate challenges and opportunities before the community college at local, state, and national levels. S/he will have an in-depth understanding of traditionally under-served and at-risk student populations, with knowledge of instructional pedagogies, learning styles, and current research including understanding of technologies for enhancement of teaching and learning and a deep commitment to institutional, state, and national research.
- An earned doctorate from an accredited university
- A record of professional achievements which would qualify for an appointment at the rank of professor with tenure, including college teaching experience, knowledge of instructional pedagogy and innovative approaches that promote student success.
- Extensive experience managing complex educational institutions and systems
- Substantial experience in higher education academic administration, preferably in a community college setting
- Proven success as a highly effective operations professional with requisite ability to manage numerous, concurrent operational demands and priorities and drive results in fulfillment of BCC's institutional mission
- Demonstrated oversight capacity for accountability and compliance and ensuring quality control of operations in large organizations/institutions
- Proven record of designing and implementing innovative educational programs
- Exceptional thinker with outstanding interpersonal, written, and communication skills in working with students, faculty, department chairs, program directors, and other administrative officers as well as external constituents
- Experience in instructional and administrative utilization of technology including institutional database management systems
- Experience in fostering collaboration and innovation in instructional design and delivery
- Experience in strategic planning, budget management, and initiation of positive organizational strategies
- Ability to inspire, mobilize, and maintain a culture of collegiality and collaboration with students, faculty and staff.
COMPENSATION
This is an Executive Compensation Plan position. The salary and benefits are competitive.

Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
