Komi Attitso

Kaplan Leadership Program Scholarship Recipient
Given the shortage of doctors in his native Togo, West Africa, Bronx Community College student Komi Attitso is passionate about becoming a radiologist. He arrived in the U.S. four years ago. While attending school, he has worked multiple jobs in order to support his family back home. In addition to his full-time job, he is also working as a chemistry lab workshop leader, where he tutors and assists students. Attitso volunteers at Jewish Home Life Care in the Bronx.
Bouniyaminou Gbadamassi

Bouniyaminou Gbadamassi is an immigrant from Togo, West Africa. At BCC, he was a student ambassador, and a member of the History Club and Phi Theta Kappa. Gbadamassi wants to complete his bachelor ’s degree and earn an MBA. Long term, he would like to head a company that does work globally. He is also interested in helping to create opportunities for African immigrants to earn college degrees in the U.S. He was also awarded a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar award. He now attends Cornell University.

Jerdene Allen

Jerdene Allen majored in business. She was an officer in the Student Government Association. She wants to eventually earn an MBA. Allen hopes to become a successful entrepreneur and assist other minority individuals to follow their dreams and become business owners as well. She transferred to St. John’s University.
Jason Belisle

Jason Belisle has been a student at BCC since spring 2006. He is a work-study student in the Office of the President and an intern with College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment (C.O.P.E.). He plans to attend Lehman College’s social work program with a minor in business administration.
Araselis Calderon

Araselis Calderon was a business administration major who envisions herself as a leader and mentor. She chose this area of study because of its ever-changing technology. Calderon plans to continue her education in information technology and business administration at Baruch College. She hopes to successfully earn an MBA and open her own information technology company.
Sasha Diaz

Sasha Diaz is a single mother whose relationship with her son motivated her determination and love for education. A liberal arts major with an interest in both education and politics, she dreams to one day attend Columbia University and major in education and minor in political science. As a Hispanic American mother who places family and education first, Diaz strives to become an advocate for children’s rights and sees herself becoming a leader in Washington, D.C. She plans to transfer to Columbia University.

Louisa Eghan is a nuclear medicine major and an ASAP (Accelerated Study in Associate Program) student at Bronx Community College. She is determined to continue her education in the area of nuclear medicine with the goal of applying what she’s learned to help others in poor or Third World countries. Her main purpose is to give back through her acquired education and skills. She essentially would like to have a career that would require her to go to these countries and assist where she can.

Alena Garcia was a human services major. She has always wanted to help others find solutions to their problems. She enjoys bringing peace into their lives and empowering them. Her goal is to become a social worker and motivational speaker for young women. She transferred to Lehman College.
Anthony Nieves

Anthony Nieves is a liberal arts and sciences major who has a dream of making it big in movies. He plans to continue his education at a school that provides coursework in special effects. Nieves attends honors classes. As a child, he witnessed many of the negative experiences that students of lower socio-economic backgrounds sometimes face in the Bronx. However, he overcame all of this when he decided to study and enroll in college. He plans to transfer to New York University.
Zyesha Phillips

Zyesha Phillips realized that without an education she would not attain a career in her interest (human services) nor would she find a job that offered a decent salary and medical insurance. Now majoring in human services at BCC, she knows the importance of education. She plans to continue at Lehman College and study human services.
Wardalina Reyes

Wardalina Reyes is a liberal arts major who came to Bronx Community College with the goal of developing her intellectual capacities in hopes to eventually transfer to a four-year accounting program at Baruch College. Although she is still unsure about what particular area within accounting she will study, she is quite fond of forensic accounting. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Reyes has taken advantage of the educational environment in the United States.
Jennifer Vega

Jennifer Vega was a nursing student at Bronx Community College. She chose this particular field because she likes the caring and nurturing aspect of nursing. She also wanted to finish what her mother could not do—become a nurse. She hopes to become a nurse manager. She transferred to Lehman College.
