India Partners Pay Visit to Campus This fall, Bronx Community College hosted two distinguished partners from India for campus visits, where discussion ensued on further developing and strengthening the CUNY – India partnership with the help of BCC’s core partner, the Consulate General of India New York.  VP Dwiti Vikramaditya of the KIIT – Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and KISS – Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences in Bhubaneswar and Dr. Girish Desai, Executive Director of Pimpri Chinchwad Education Trust (PCET), met with BCC Administration, organized by Science Professors Dr. Neal Phillip and Paramita Sen, who have been leading the CUNY-India initiative for the past several years.

Last February, Phillip and Sen led a trip to India, where students installed a weather station at KIIT as part of its U.S. Department of State public diplomacy grant with the U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad and in April co-organized the Odisha Climate Action Week with a successful beach clean-up and AI and ML workshops. Additionally, KIIT hosted a successful Weather and Climate Hackathon with 16 partnering higher education institutions from seven states of India and the New York Harbor High School on Governors Island September 19 – 21, 2024. KIIT also hosted 30 CUNY students and five faculty/staff for the CUNY India Trek program.

BCC has been engaged with Dr Desai and Pimpri since last November through its U.S. State Department public diplomacy grant with the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai.  Students also installed a weather station at Pimpri last November, and Pimpri hosted our CUNY National Science Foundation (NSF) India air pollution research internship students this past January.

While here at BCC, Dr Desai joined in discussions with a First Year Seminar (FYS11) class to encourage students to travel to India as part of the Study Abroad program. BCC looks forward to continuing to build on the success of its exchange programs and cross-collaborations with India in the months and years ahead.
