Student Support Services
Every student enrolled at the EOC is supported by a guidance counselor (case manager). The counselors provide preliminary guidance and advisement for students who consider registering in EOC programs. Counselors also serve as members of program selection committees, which interview and select students for program cycles. Throughout a student's tenure in an EOC program, a counselor is available to provide continued support, advocacy, and assistance toward successful completion of the program. Students are asked to contact their counselor regarding any appointments or issues that will prevent attendance in class. In general, counselors are available to assist students overcoming barriers to successful completion of their program.
The Bronx EOC provides students with assistance with interview and resume preparation, job searches, and job placement during and after successful completion of EOC programs. The employment services include use of computers, a phone, fax machine, and a copy machine to support students in their job seeking activities. The EOC has job developers who provide group instruction as well as one-to-one advisement and placement services. The job developers also invite employers to the EOC facility for interviews, orientations, and career fairs.
Medical assistant and office technology (with Microsoft technology) internships provide the bridge between occupational training and job placement. These opportunities provide experiential components of EOC occupational training programs. They also offer meaningful supervised work that provides the practical skills and experience needed to obtain relevant employment. All internships are full time, Mondays through Fridays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a period of six weeks.
Approved GED Testing Site
The Bronx EOC is a testing site approved by the New York State Education Department's GED Testing Services. More than 1,200 tests are administered on a yearly basis in English and Spanish. Special accommodations testing is available once per year.
