Do not DELAY! FAFSA is used for Federal Pell Grant, SEOG, Work-Study and Student Loans.

How to Apply?

Step 1.

Watch the 7 Easy Steps to 2014-2105 FAFSA helpful tutorial.

File 2013 Income Tax Returns.

Collect the required documents:

  • Your social security number.
  • Dates of birth.
  • Date of marital status.
  • Your alien registration/permanent resident number (if you are not a citizen).
  • 2013 tax returns (with W2s) for you and your spouse (if married) or parents (if dependent) to use for reference when using the IRS Data Retrieval option.
  • Recent bank, stock, real estate and business amounts (if applicable).

Step 2.

Get a Federal PIN
(also one for your parents if a dependent).

A PIN is used to sign your FAFSA electronically—you can also use the same PIN every year.

File your FAFSA on the web
Bronx Community College school code:

  • FAFSA is 002692.

Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your 2013 IRS Income Tax data to the FAFSA.

Submit your application; you will receive a Confirmation page. Print your FAFSA data and confirmation page.

Step 3.

Apply for New York State Aid - TAP.

On your FAFSA confirmation page click on "Optional Feature" link and you will be directed to start your New York State (TAP) application.
Note: If you are not a New York State resident, this option will not be available to you.

Review the pre-filled answers on the application, correct any wrong information and answer any questions that are missing information.

Bronx Community School Code:

  • TAP is 1400.

Check the status of your TAP application in 2 - 4 weeks after completing your application by logging on to www.hesc.org.

APTS (Aid to Part-Time Study).

If you plan to attend BCC as a part-time student, you may be eligible for a New York State Aid to Part-Time Study (APTS).

After you file your NYS TAP Application, CUNY will notify you by email to complete a CUNY Financial Aid Supplement which contains several additional questions needed to determine your eligibility for APTS. Log on to the CUNY Portal to access the Admissions/Financial Aid Center and complete your "eSupp" (CUNY Supplement) application.

Other things to remember - Provide a valid e-mail address:

  • If you provide a valid e-mail address when you file your application, you will receive an e-mail with a URL to access your application results. If you and your parents used a PIN to sign your FAFSA and there are no other problems with your application information, you may receive an e-mail notification in as little as 24-72 hours.
  • Be sure to look at your application results when you receive the e-mail notification and download a copy of the results, which is called the Student Aid Report (SAR) for your records.
  • Your SAR contains the information reported on your FAFSA and usually includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
  • The EFC is an index number used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid.
  • Review your SAR information and make any corrections or changes, if necessary. Once you list Bronx Community College on your FAFSA, the college will receive your SAR data electronically.
