DESCRIPTION:In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month\, the Hall of Fame Art Gallery is pleased to present \nHere & There \nAn Exhibition of Paintings by Librado Romero \nHall of Fame Art Gallery\, Bliss Hall 107 \nOctober 1–October 31 \nOpening Reception: Wednesday\, October 8\, 1–3pm \nMexican American artist\, Librado “Lee” Romero\, is a former Chief Photographer at the New York Times and a recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for his photojournalism. In 2013\, he retired from the Times to paint full-time\, producing vivid works on canvas inspired by his childhood\, his love of music\, his work overseas\, and years of traveling as a professional photographer. As a photojournalist\, he often traveled by rail allowing him to observe the American landscape through train windows––an experience that has informed his artistic process: \n“I’m not interested in details\, and I don’t really have the time traveling at eighty plus miles per hour\, and that’s the challenge. There’s no option but to simplify lines\, making suggestions of things that you’re not sure of to begin with\, and paint vibrant landscapes… Everything is fleeting and ever-changing.”  \nRomero’s observations of the landscape are rich with stories told with direct imagery\, vibrant color\, and thick impasto. He paints with a fearlessness of color and application. Here & There will include twenty-one oil paintings on canvas and an installation of his paint encrusted easel.
