Rep. Adriano Espaillat Announces $1.2 Million Investment in BCC Automotive Technology FacilitiesBronx Community College welcomed U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat to campus for a special check presentation announcing $1.2 million in federal funding to support the College’s Automotive Technology Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program.

The funding, included in the FY 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill signed into law earlier this year, represents the second installment of a two-part federal investment championed by Rep. Espaillat. Combined with a previous $850,000 allocation, the total federal commitment will provide nearly $2 million to modernize and fully activate Guggenheim Hall, the primary instructional facility for BCC’s Automotive Technology program, while also supporting improvements to Patterson Garage, the College’s site for electric and autonomous vehicle instruction.

Renovations will address long-standing infrastructure needs in Guggenheim Hall, including upgrades to HVAC and ventilation systems, roofing, lighting, and other essential improvements. Once completed, the project will enable BCC to significantly expand its Automotive Technology program, serving more than 200 students annually as they prepare for high-demand careers in the transportation and automotive industries.

“Rep. Espaillat’s continued advocacy underscores the importance of community colleges as engines of economic mobility,” said BCC President Dr. Larry D. Johnson, Jr. “This funding ensures our students have access to modern facilities and hands-on training that align with today’s industry standards.”

The investment strengthens one of BCC’s most distinctive workforce-focused academic programs and reinforces the College’s commitment to providing affordable pathways to well-paying, in-demand careers.
