Each semester the Tutoring Center, Loew Hall 412, offers specialized training focused on how to be an effective tutor. Bronx Community College is now a nationally Certified Tutoring Program* so that students who complete Tutor Training receive certificates which are valuable on their resumes. The schedule for all Levels of training is available on the College Website or at Loew Hall 412.
Level I training, for new tutors, is offered on two days during the first month of the semester to prepare tutors for high quality service. The trainers are experienced faculty and staff who provide programs which are stimulating, interactive and intensive.
Level II training, the intermediate program, gives experienced tutors more in-depth programming to focus on tutoring issues and theory. Level II is offered once per year, in either spring or fall, for two full days. The criteria for eligibility are available on this link under Tutor Certification.
Level III, the highest tutor training level, provides tutors with case studies and study skills reinforcement ideas; it serves as a practicum for addressing challenging situations. Level III is offered once per year, in either spring or fall, for two full days. The criteria for eligibility are available on this link under Tutor Certification.
