With students, community members, and local leaders gathered inside Commonpoint Bronx’s newly activated community space, Bronx Community College (BCC) and Commonpoint Bronx announced a multi-layered collaboration designed to expand educational and workforce opportunities for Bronx residents. The partnership, unveiled in conjunction with Commonpoint’s one-year anniversary in the Bronx, aligns college readiness, workforce training, career preparation, and supportive services – particularly for youth, young adults, and adult learners from historically underserved communities.

“BCC’s collaboration with Commonpoint Bronx reflects our intentional strategy to deepen community engagement by partnering with organizations whose missions align with our commitment to access, equity, and opportunity,” said BCC President Larry D. Johnson, Jr. “Through this work, we are expanding education and career pathways for Bronx residents by integrating college readiness, workforce training, and holistic supports. Together, we are breaking down barriers and building sustainable pipelines to careers and economic mobility across our community.”

The collaboration will include non-degree training programs leading to industry-recognized credentials, pathways into credit-bearing BCC programs and workforce initiatives that connect participants directly to career opportunities. Both organizations will also track outcomes such as college access, credential attainment, employment, and wage growth – demonstrating the effectiveness of a community-based organization and community college partnership model.

“At Commonpoint, we meet people where they are and help them get where they want to go,” said Commonpoint CEO Danielle Ellman. “By embedding access to Bronx Community College within our programs and pairing it with the supports our community members need – like childcare, food access, and counseling – we’re removing barriers and creating real pathways to education, careers, and long-term stability.”

The signing ceremony included remarks from Lee Perlman, Chair of the Commonpoint Board, along with New York State Senator Luis Sepulveda, New York City Council Member Justin Sanchez, and Sabriena Campbell, Chief of Staff from the office of Assembly Member Chantel Jackson.

Together, BCC and Commonpoint Bronx aim to build a more seamless, equitable pipeline from learning to employment, strengthening the Bronx’s economic mobility infrastructure and creating lasting opportunities for the communities they serve.
