Women's Basketball - Founder's DayBronx Community College (BCC) marked a new chapter in its history with the launch of its first-ever Founders Day, a campus-wide celebration hosted in partnership with the BCC Foundation, Student Life, and Athletics. The event brought the campus community together for a day of connection, competition, and Bronco pride.

A total of 19 student clubs faced off in the semesterly event, the “I.O.C. Beast Games,” competing for the first ever Founders Cup in a series of high-energy challenges, and nearly 100 students participated in games and activities. “The day was full of energy, engagement, and campus pride, and the weather couldn’t have been better,” said Tiffany Dubon-Yard, Associate Director of Student Life.

The celebration also featured the presentation of the Founders Day Winner’s Cup and recognition of BCC’s Women’s Basketball team, which was honored as CUNY Champions and nationally ranked competitors – marking the first-ever Founders Day institutional award and a milestone for Bronx Community College Athletics. In a highlight moment, Women’s Basketball team members were presented with championship rings.

Founders Cup winners included:

  • 1st Place: Caribbean Student Association
  • 2nd Place: Radiologic Technology Club
  • 3rd Place: Phi Theta Kappa

In his remarks, President Dr. Larry Johnson reflected on the meaning behind the new tradition, emphasizing that BCC’s legacy has always been shaped not by a single founder, but by generations of students who continue to move the institution forward.

“Founders Day is poised to become a lasting tradition at BCC, one that celebrates not only the college’s history, but the students who continue to define its future,” said Dubon-Yard.

Elaidy Almanzar, IOC Advisor & Student Life Coordinator, who led the organization of the day, said, “The IOC Beast Games gave students the chance to demonstrate their competitive spirit, teamwork, and Bronco pride. The highlight of the event is witnessing the camaraderie among club members and their inclusive attitude toward prospective students.”
