A new three-minute video from Haggar Clothing Co. is putting Bronx Community College’s Career Gear™ Boutique – and the students it serves – into the national spotlight. 

Filmed in partnership with The Agentcy Collective, the short documentary captures the powerful impact of providing BCC students with free, brand-new professional attire as they prepare for interviews, internships, and career opportunities. At the center of the story is Diante Marcele Johnson, an engineering science student, U.S. Marine Corps Reservist, and Bronx native whose journey reflects determination, service, and leadership. 

The video also features BCC alum Yesika, now continuing her studies at Lehman College while working in the Boutique, and highlights the dedicated staff and student workers who help bring the initiative to life each day. 

What viewers don’t see is just as powerful. 

Just weeks before filming, a major water leak caused significant damage to the Career Gear™ Boutique, threatening to derail the project. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of BCC’s Facilities team – who worked nights and weekends to fully restore the space – as well as staff and student workers who salvaged and re-inventoried clothing, the Boutique was ready in time for filming. 

The result is a moving and authentic look at what makes the program so impactful: a community coming together to ensure students can show up with confidence and pride. 

For Diante, that confidence has been transformative. 

“Looking the part is just as important as acting the part,” he shared. “It gives you the confidence to stand in front of others and speak about your goals.” 

Now, his story is continuing to gain momentum. Diante has been selected to participate in Haggar’s national “This Feels Good” campaign, which highlights individuals making a positive difference in their communities.
