BCC Students Join Mayor Mamdani for WNYC Taping

  Update   •

BCC Biology major Christina Torres was the first CUNY community college student to pose a question to Zohran Mamdani during a special evening at The Greene Space/WNYC Studios. The event featured the Mayor reflecting on his first 100 days and comparing them to those of Fiorello La Guardia in the 1930s.

Christina was joined by fellow BCC students Heby Rodriguez (Political Science), Jesus Rios (History), Jonathan Abrams (Studio Arts), Sabrina Torres (BCC alum, current History major at Lehman), and Zohee Nana Amankwa (Allied Health Sciences), accompanied by Prof. Prithi Kanakamedala (History). The audience consisted exclusively of CUNY community college students from all five boroughs.

The conversation between Mayor Mamdani and WNYC Senior Political Reporter Brigid Bergin was followed by a moderated discussion featuring former City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, former Schools Chancellor and Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and historian Kim Phillips-Fein.

Thanks to LaGuardia Community College Director of Public History Stephen Petrus for inviting BCC to the event.
