Journalist Pedro Rivera Named 2026 Commencement Keynote Speaker
Bronx Community College is proud to announce award-winning journalist Pedro Rivera as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Commencement Ceremony.
Pedro Rivera is an Emmy Award and Los Angeles Press Club Award winning journalist who currently co-anchors Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News Mornings at 10 on weekdays for WABC-TV in New York City.
Prior to returning home to New York, Mr. Rivera anchored weeknights in Los Angeles, California, where he covered major national stories, including the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and the Camp Fire in Northern California, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history. In addition to his reporting, he co-hosted several high-profile broadcasts, including KTLA’s WeHo Pride, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Rose Parade specials.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Rivera has reported and anchored in multiple markets across the country, including Sacramento, California; Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Hartford, Connecticut. He is widely recognized for his thoughtful storytelling, on-the-ground reporting, and his ability to connect with diverse communities, bringing clarity and context to complex and often difficult stories.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Rivera went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Pace University in Pleasantville, New York, where he also interned at WABC-TV—an early experience that helped shape his career in broadcast journalism. Mr. Rivera remains actively engaged with his alma mater, serving on the advisory board for the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences. He is also committed to advancing diversity in media as Co-Chair of the Afro-Latino Task Force for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, where he works to support and elevate the next generation of journalists.
As a journalist and storyteller, Mr. Rivera is dedicated not only to informing the public, but also to amplifying voices and perspectives that reflect the richness and diversity of the communities he serves. His career stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, representation, and purpose-driven work— values that strongly align with the mission of Bronx Community College and serve as an inspiration to its graduating class.
