Bellabe, Cassandra

With a career in higher education that began in 1993, I have proudly served at Bronx Community College (BCC) since 1997, holding various academic and leadership roles throughout the years. My journey includes positions in the Student Development Department, specifically within the College Discovery Program, General Counseling, and as an Evening Supervisor at the SUNY Bronx Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). In these roles, I taught various courses, supported students in overcoming academic and financial challenges, fostering their personal and professional growth.

Currently, I am a full-time tenured lecturer in the Social Science Department, specializing in Human Services. Additionally, I serve as an adjunct instructor within both the City University of New York (CUNY) and State University of New York (SUNY) systems, contributing to the broader academic community.

My teaching philosophy is deeply student-centered, grounded in the belief that every student deserves guidance, encouragement, and the tools to succeed. I strive to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment both online and in-person that empowers students to discover their potential and persevere through challenges.

My scholarly interests include student engagement and retention, disability studies, culturally responsive pedagogy, and community-based education initiatives. I am passionate about exploring how education can be a transformative force in individuals' lives and within underserved communities.

Beyond the classroom, I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a devoted mother, and a lifelong learner with a love for travel and cross-cultural experiences. Community service is not just a value but a personal commitment, and I take great pride in giving back through various outreach efforts.

A quote that continues to inspire both my work and life philosophy comes from Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do.” My message to all students: Is to stay positive, on course and remember, to never ever give up!
