Nancy SullivanDr. Nancy Sullivan joined BCC last month as the new Executive Director of Human Resources. She enthusiastically shares her bold vision for ensuring that departments across the College are able to do their best work.

“We want to make sure the employee experience is a great one for the entire life cycle – from the time we reach out to someone interested in a position here at BCC, to the time they onboard and then ultimately exit the organization,” she said. “We must view all employees as valued customers and clients. We are selling our brand, and HR is that first face of the organization.”

Dr. Sullivan’s career has included working in every facet of HR and as a HR director in numerous capacities at NYU Langone Health. For the past 17 years, she was HR Director of NYU Langone Hospital’s Long Island campuses, and prior to that, served as Northwell Health System’s HR Compensation Strategist.

As a starting point, Dr. Sullivan said she and her team will work to get to know all departments as best as possible to be able to provide support and manage any current shortcomings. “We need to understand what each department does so that we can guide them and educate them through training,” she said.

Dr. Sullivan plans to incorporate automation into HR processes and workflows. She envisions releasing the team from simple tasks to free up employees’ time so they can move away from more transactional activities to higher level functions.

“As we evolve in HR, we want to help administrators across the college become more effective leaders. We have amazing talent at BCC. Tapping into that talent and making our faculty and staff feel valued, supported and engaged is key to retaining our employees,” Dr. Sullivan added.
