Google Education

Last summer, Google approached Bronx Community College about piloting a six-month Mentorship and Development Program (MDP), Google’s first community college-focused effort. It was intended for students with a passion for technology, especially students from Black and Latinx communities and other groups historically excluded from tech. Over 140 students, from Queensborough, LaGuardia, and Bronx Community Colleges, participated in an online portion of the program.

MDP is winding down now and the students involved have given their reactions to the experience: 96.1% would recommend the program to others and 90.8% plan to study computer science. Participating in that success were BCC Computer Science Professors Uma Iyer and Natalia Novak, who helped with recruitment.
