BCC Rotunda Concert Series will be available for streaming online. Performers for Spring 2022 will be Dr. Emmalinda McSpadden, Prof. Michael Rose and Laura Strickling.

Guest artist Laura Strickling: Laura Strickling was praised by The New York Times for her, “flexible voice, crystalline diction, and warm presence.” Celebrated for her work on the concert and recital stage, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, National Sawdust, Trinity Church on Wall Street, Washington National Cathedral, Tanglewood Music Festival, Ravinia Music Festival, the Opera America Center, Mexicoliederfest, Liederfest in Suzhou (China), and the Afghanistan National Institute of Music. https://www.laurastrickling.com

Michael Rose has written extensively for voice, drawing inspiration from Korean vocal techniques, and composed several works for non-western instruments, including a set of pieces for komungo. His compositions have been performed by eighth blackbird, JACK Quartet, ICE, Richmond County Orchestra, Brooklyn Art Song Society, and American Opera Projects. He has also written for theater and film and done arranging work for Angelique Kidjo. Awards include a Fulbright to India and residencies at Djerassi, VCCA, and Yaddo. An Oberlin graduate, he is currently working towards his PhD at NYU while on faculty at Brooklyn Conservatory and Bronx Community College/CUNY. He also runs the Brooklyn New Music Collective concert series, now in its seventeenth season. https://michaelrosecomposer.com

Guest artist Nina Berman: New York-based soprano Nina Berman has performed in a variety of settings, from vocal improvisation to opera, with a particular focus on chamber music and art song. Her most recent projects include performances of Milton Babbitt’s Solo Requiem with pianists Steve Beck, Eric Huebner, and Stephen Gosling; singing as a featured soloist in Justine Chen’s The Turing Project with American Lyric Opera; and singing the soprano in the Grammy-nominated Metropolis Ensemble’s premiere of Him Sophy’s Bangskol: A Requiem for Cambodia. Past seasons have also included creating several roles in the premiere of Christopher Williams’ and Gregory Spears’ ballet-opera Wolf-in-Skins in a joint collaboration between American Opera Projects and Philadelphia Dance Projects, as well as singing as a member of a three-voice improvisational sound installation in Maja Bajevič’s most recent New York exhibition, To Be Continued. https://ninabermansoprano.com

Dr. Oliver Markson: With engagements to date in Japan, China, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, Thailand, and the United States, Oliver Markson is establishing himself internationally as a concert pianist, composer, and teacher. Recent performances include the Tchaikovsky 1st Concerto, Grieg Concerto and Beethoven Triple Concerto at Blas Galindo Hall, Mexico City; solo recitals at Elebash Recital Hall, New York; a series of piano recitals in the Shanghai Concert Hall, China; a series of vocal recitals with sopranos Monica Harte and Nina Berman; and violin/piano recitals with Mayumi Fujikawa in England and Japan, which have led to two CD releases under the Japanese label Mittenwald from 2009 and 2011. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bronx Community College, CUNY. https://www.olivermarkson.com
