Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez (D-Bronx) announced today that Bronx Community College (BCC) will receive $125,000 in State funding to purchase laptops for BCC students to use for distance learning during the Covid-19 crisis.

“To continue teaching its students while the College is closed due to the epidemic, BCC must transition to a distance-learning model — but many students do not have laptops and cannot afford them,” observed Assemblywoman Fernandez. “My office is providing $125K in funding so that BCC will be able to purchase some 600 HP Chrome books that will be loaned to students until they can return to campus.”

BCC President Thomas A. Isekenegbe expressed his thanks.

“Bronx Community College is deeply grateful to Assemblywoman Fernandez for this funding,” said Dr. Isekenegbe. “This model of Chrome book is truly an education-focused laptop that combines all the qualities of a high-end device for a fraction of the cost. Our College depends on the support of public officials like Nathalia, who believe in higher education for all.”
