A BCC Hero Remembered and Revered

Bronx Community College has honored a heroic student with the presentation of a diploma he did not live to see.

Lucas Silverio was only 19 when, two years ago, he raced into a burning building in his Bronx neighborhood to rescue a three-year-old girl. Both of them perished from their injuries.

On Wednesday, January 20, BCC President Thomas A. Isekenegbe presented an Associate of Science degree to the Silverio family. Also present at the ceremony were BCC Provost Lester Sandres Rápalo and Saidia Jacobs, Lucas’s academic adviser. The event was covered by ABC7 Eyewitness News.

“How many young men these days would do what he did?” President Thomas Isekenegbe noted. “We miss him on our campus.”
