BCC Student Named Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar
Bronx Community College student Ama Afful has been named a 2021 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
Selection as a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar was based on scores Ms. Afful earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition. More than 2,000 applied this year, of which only 50 were named Gold Scholars. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
“Bronx Community College congratulates Ama Afful for exemplifying BCC’s pursuit of excellence,” says President Thomas A. Isekenegbe, “and we thank the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for once again recognizing the achievements of an outstanding BCC student.”
Born and raised in Ghana, Ama Afful came to United States in 2016 and started at BCC three years later. She is working towards a degree in Dietetics & Nutrition/Pre-Nursing studies. Ms. Afful is also the treasurer of the Student Government Association, Vice President of Scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has served on the Committee on Vice Presidents and Deans and the Committee on Academic Standing.
Ms. Afful has her future well planned: after she graduates from BCC this spring, she will pursue a B.A. at New York University, followed by a master’s degree in nurse-midwifery and ultimately a doctorate in nursing practice to support special needs patients. “My life’s goal is to advocate for safe and supportive health care for women.”
