BCC Students Provide Winning Green Action Grant Designs to Promote Sustainable Practices on Campus
As part of the $1 million New York Power Authority Green Action Grant awarded to BCC to improve campus sustainability and reduce the College’s environmental footprint, the College held a design contest asking for entries that would raise awareness for the need to conserve energy, save water and recycle. BCC student and Design Studio intern Meena Mangroo won for poster design, and Rayelle Lennard won the logo design competition. The winning designs have been reproduced as wraps for the garbage/recycling bins across campus and enlarged to serve as extra publicity at various on-campus sites.
“As a designer, this logo made me understand the importance of feedback and deeply understanding the role that your logo has to play in wider applications. I am so grateful for those around me who helped steer me in this direction,” Lennard said.
Mangroo said how thrilled she has been to see her design replicated in numerous ways. “I was so excited when I first came on campus and saw my design on the recycling bins. This has been a terrific experience working to solve real world challenges with my designs,” she said.
