Bronx Community College Holds Investment Challenge with SIFMA Foundation’s Stock Market Game™
This summer, Bronx Community College (BCC) held its investment challenge in partnership with the SIFMA Foundation, Blackstone LaunchPad, and the First-Year Program. This engaging and educational 8-week simulation brought the dynamic world of global capital markets to life for students and faculty alike. The program, which kicked off June 17th and concluded August 9th, offered participants a unique opportunity to build investment skills and deepen their understanding of economics, personal finance, and investing.
Over the course of the game, participants managed virtual portfolios, starting with $100,000 in simulated funds. They navigated the complexities of trading stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and more, all within a live trading environment. The competition fostered a hands-on learning experience, with both individual players and teams working diligently to maximize their portfolios’ return on investment (ROI).
The game saw strong participation from BCC’s student body, with many forming teams and competing for top honors. “The enthusiasm and commitment of those who completed trades and actively engaged throughout the competition were commendable,” said Vice President of Advancement, Communications & External Relations Dr. Eddy Bayardelle.
Winners and Highlights:
- 1st Place: Barbie Levia – $1,000
- 2nd Place: Daniel Alban – $500
- 3rd Place: Astrit Boshnjaku – $250
The program also featured a career panel, offering participants insights into potential career paths in finance and investing. The panel was an essential part of the learning experience, helping students connect their newfound knowledge with real-world applications.
Dr. Bayardelle added, “BCC is thrilled with the continued success of this program and is excited to announce plans to run it again this Fall semester, starting in October. We look forward to another round of learning and competition, made possible by the support of Blackstone LaunchPad, the First-Year Program, and the SIFMA Foundation. Stay tuned for more details!”
