BCC Students Design Their Success

This has been a remarkable year for the Bronx Community College Art and Music Department’s Digital Arts program.

In the spring, the program launched the first working design studio on any CUNY campus.

Managed and art-directed by BCC alum (Class of 2006) David Ulloa, the Bronx Community College Design Studio hired six paid digital design student interns to work on projects for 20 different clients.

Now, a number of those interns, as well as interns from the BCC Hall Of Fame Gallery, landed summer internships at high-end workplaces:

  • Chelsea Davis, Digital Arts 2019, is interning at Ogilvy XD.
  • Sydney Guzman, Digital Arts 2019and Isiah Fynn, Digital Arts 2018 are interning at Red Antler, an award-winning branding agency.
  • Isabella Balbi Digital Arts 2019, BCC Hall of Fame Gallery student intern, is interning with the Longwood Art Gallery.
  • Jesus Medina, Digital Art 2019and Katherine Rodriguez, Digital Arts 2018 (both whom were Fall ’17 to Spring ’18 Gallery interns) are part of a summer internship with BronxArts Space.

The Art and Music Department is now working on an articulation agreement with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), one of the pre-eminent design schools in the country. This fall, three digital design majors will be entering FIT’s Digital Design BFA program.

Meanwhile, the incoming cohort of BCC Digital Studio interns has already been interviewed and selected. Professor Lisa Amowitz, Director of the Digital Arts AAS Degree Program, is looking forward to a productive academic year.
