Amowitz, Lisa

Lisa Amowitz has been teaching at Bronx Community College since 1996 and is the Director of the college’s Digital Design AAS degree program. In addition to playing an integral role in the development of BCC’s highly successful Digital Design program, she has worked to launch the college’s in-house Design Studio, an experiential learning incubator for student interns that is led by BCC alumni. Lisa is a working graphic designer, illustrator, artist, community activist, and the author of three young adult novels, Breaking Glass (2022), Until Beth (2015), and Vision (2014). She also has a short story in the YA anthology, Unbound: Stories of Love, Transformation and Monsters. Lisa is the cover designer for all three of her books and the co-designer for Unbound.

She has received a BRIO Award for Painting from the Bronx Council on the Arts as well as a public art commission from the New York City MTA Arts for Transit Program. Her installation, Urban Renewal, is permanently located at the Simpson Station on the 2 and 5 line. She was also the winner of the CUNY 9-11 Memorial web design competition. 

Her series of artworks, titled Intolerantiaphobia (2020­–2022), are a part of the CONTAIN YOUR FEAR Collective, which has mounted shows at the Union Street Gallery in Chicago, The Toe River Gallery in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and the Dayton Society of Artists in Dayton, Ohio.
