Faculty Lecture Series – Talk by Historian Stephen Duncan
The Departments of English and History cordially invite you to attend a presentation by Professor Stephen Duncan of the History Department this coming Thursday, entitled “Howl at ‘The Place’: Sex, Race, and Space in the Cold War Urban Underground.” Professor Duncan’s talk focuses on the art and the antics of rebellious figures in 1950s nightlife in the bars and nightclubs of San Francisco and New York, and it is based on his 2018 book, The Rebel Café: Sex, Race and Politics in Cold War America’s Nightclub Underground, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. Co-sponsored by the History and English Departments, the talk promises to be an exciting look at an under-explored side of Cold War culture and history.
When: Thursday, February 7, 2019
Where: NL (Law Classroom in the Library) Room 314
Time: 2-4 PM
