Grants Office Fills Vacancies
The Grants Office has filled staff vacancies. Congratulations to Emily Marino on her new position, and welcome Cheryl Shriber and Astrid Barreras to the Grants team! Emily will continue to focus on private grants (corporate, non-profit, private foundation, partnerships) and Cheryl will focus on public sector grants (Federal, State, City). Astrid will focus on grant management in the pre-award process.

Emily Marino Transitions to New Role as Development & Partnerships Director
Following two years of managing budgets and overseeing operations for grants in the Office of Advancement, Emily Marino is transitioning to an expanded role. As Development & Partnerships Director, she will seek out and secure private foundation funding to enable the College to offer more student support and innovative academic programs.
During her time so far at BCC, Marino has worked closely with the BCC Foundation and the Research Foundation. Her goal in this new position is to build upon the work of the
Pre-Award or Post-Award Grant and Research team and make BCC a go-to partner in the community.
This past year’s grants have been linked to financial literacy and sustainability initiatives. Marino plans to target new areas such as student support for emergency aid and access to ESL courses.
Cheryl Shriber Joins Bronx Community College as Director of Grants
Cheryl Shriber comes to Bronx Community College (BCC) after nearly 25 years of experience as a senior grants executive responsible for leading grant acquisition and management strategies, as well as writing grants, for a variety of institutions. Most recently, Shriber served as Director of Grants at Union College.
“I look forward to returning to CUNY,” said Shriber, whose career also includes serving as Interim Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at College of Staten Island/CUNY and Grant Writer/Development Adjunct at Kingsborough Community College/CUNY.
Throughout her career, Shriber has been instrumental in yielding a significant increase in competitive awards to the colleges she has represented. Among others, she has secured grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Advanced Technological Education (ATE) and Improving Undergraduate Education (IUSE). In her new role at BCC, Shriber will focus on generating public grants.
Shriber is an avid swimmer and kayaker and involved as an instructor, chairperson and Board of Trustee member of numerous related organizations.
Astrid Barreras to Join BCC as Grants Manager
Effective September 16, 2024, Astrid Barreras will transition from the Tittle V project, where she has served as Project Manager at Bronx Community College, to Grants Manager at BCC. Barreras will assist in managing the submission of pre-award grants.
Barreras has served as Project Manager for the Title V project since February, 2022. Prior to that, she was Program Manager for the Hunts Point Alliance for Children in the Bronx, where she oversaw the day-to-day planning and implementation of the GraduateNYC College Completion Innovation Fund Grant.
Barreras is currently working towards her Masters in Business Administration from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
