A Welcome to Students from President Thomas A. Isekenegbe

  Update   •

Dear Students:

Welcome to the Spring 2021 semester at Bronx Community College.

This is the fifth semester when our classes, meetings, conferences and community events are taking place almost entirely online. Like you, I miss our physical campus and the days when I stood at the University Avenue Gate on the first day of classes, personally welcoming each of you as you climbed the steps towards a new chapter in your BCC adventure. I miss walking through our library and past classrooms and feeling the excitement of minds at work.

Those days will return. But in the meantime, I want you to know how impressed I am with how every part of our community has faced the challenges of the virtual campus — and met them with perseverance, flexibility and ingenuity. These trying times have brought out the best in us. They have also reminded us that as much as we love our landmark buildings, gorgeous greenery and winding walkways, in the end what makes BCC so special is you, our students. You don’t just attend Bronx Community College. You ARE Bronx Community College

Though for the present I cannot be with you in person, I ask you to be a part of the upcoming virtual gatherings that keep us together as a college:

Freshman Convocation is on Thursday, February 11 and all students are invited to this official kickoff of the spring semester. Like the Fall Convocation, it will be in the form of a pre-recorded video that will be released online at 9:00 am. You will be welcomed by me, along with administrators and student leaders. You will also hear a keynote address from Darnell Reed, a recent BCC graduate who is now at the start of a great career.

Our first Student Town Hall of the semester is scheduled for Thursday, February 18 at 1:00 pm. This is your opportunity to learn the latest BCC news, ask any questions you may have and share your experiences with your peers as well as faculty and staff.

February is also Black History Month, which BCC will be observing with a variety of virtual events that are engaging and thought-provoking. Details will be shared on our social media and via BCCbroadcast, please be sure to check your email.

To all who are new to BCC, I am pleased you have chosen to be one of us. Here we believe that no one who aspires to a higher education and is willing to do the work it requires should have their dream denied. We are proud of the rich diversity of the thousands of students we are preparing to be the next generation of leaders and citizens of the world. BCC is guided by a spirit of creativity and discovery, a belief in the possibility of greatness for all and the power of perseverance that I am confident will see us through the difficulties of today to the triumphs to come.

I wish all of you a productive year ahead.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Isekenegbe, Ph.D.
President
