BCC Kicks Off Women’s History Month by Celebrating the 7th Anniversary of Womxn Up!, the first Women’s Center at a Community College

women's history kickoffBCC kicked off a series of Women’s History Month events with a 7-year anniversary celebration for WomxnUp!, the College’s women’s center that provides a range of programs throughout the year, including empowerment programs, mental health & wellness workshops, sister support groups, leadership development, campus coalitions to end domestic and sexual violence, and more. WomxnUp! Director Gloria Rodriguez and Interim BCC President Dr. Milton Santiago delivered welcome remarks. Dr. Santiago talked about the Bronx’s history as a hub for activism and advocacy for women’s rights and thanked Professor Rodriguez for working tirelessly to ensure that the Center offers a welcoming, safe, supportive and inclusive space that serves the needs of all female identified students and allies in the BCC community. Student activities and presentations followed, along with a slideshow showcasing the meaningful work of WomxnUp! over the years. Additional Women’s History Month events took place across campus throughout the month, including the following: 

BCC Honors Faculty, Staff, Students and Launches Scholarship in Honor of Professor Diallou

The Office of Student Life, Office of Student Diversity Initiatives, WomXn Up! and Blackstone Launchpad collaborated on a networking event for students highlighting the professional women that work at Bronx Community College. The agenda consisted of a brief presentation of photos and videos of women professionals at BCC, honoring some women faculty, staff and students that create an impact on our campus, followed by a “speed networking” session with the women from different offices and academic departments who attended. In partnership with Blackstone, a student scholarship was initiated in memory of BCC History Professor Diallou.
