More than 200 students, alumni and campus leaders gathered on the quad to hear remarks from President Larry Johnson and connect with peers and staff celebrating the start of the fall semester. Students learned about the many resources available to assist them in their academic journeys – including support with food and emergency assistance related to housing insecurity and personal needs.

Associate Director, Office of Student Life Tiffany Dubon-Yard said, “This was a reimagined Student Convocation at BCC and we look forward to continuing this as the new tradition for years to come!”

BCC alum and mental health specialist Gabriella Castillo, Class of 2021, and SGA President Bryan Gomez offered welcome remarks. Students had fun playing games and enjoying sandwiches, popcorn, and cotton candy. More than a dozen raffle prizes were given out, including two $50 Stop & Shop gift cards donated by BCC Cares. Students participated in the longstanding BCC “Commitment to Completion” Pledge.

Dr. Johnson passionately told students they belong at BCC; the staff believes in them, and they will be supported every step of the way. He concluded with his hallmark sign-off: “Better days are ahead of you. And the best is still yet to come.
