BCC Kicks Off Strategic Planning for “Bronx Renaissance 2031”

Interactive activities such as Strategic Planning Bingo and creative writing exercises that encouraged attendees to envision BCC’s future fostered strong engagement across departments and divisions. Among the participants were the nearly 20 members of the College’s Strategic Planning Committee, working collaboratively to define BCC’s priorities, goals, and future direction.
President Larry D. Johnson, Jr. welcomed the group and set the tone for the day. “I am delighted to kick off this day with you and grateful for the leaders who will see this work through,” he said. “Our strategic planning will guide and drive this institution. It will be the focal point for everything we do.”
Dr. Johnson emphasized the importance of breaking down silos and strengthening cross-functional collaboration throughout the College community.
During the program, Interim Vice President for Student Success Dr. Manny Lopez encouraged attendees to think boldly. “Imagine what changes you’d like to see at BCC over the next five years,” Dr. Lopez said.
Dean of Institutional Effectiveness Ray Galinski spoke of the rapid changes taking place today in higher education and shared updates on progress made toward the Middle States Self-Study and work that lies ahead. VP for Enrollment Management Bernard Gant and Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Luis Montenegro talked about how to support students’ academic success – empowering every student; expanding access for diverse, working and adult learners, and advancing social mobility.
Additionally, Associate Dean for Curriculum Matters and Academic Programs Alex Ott and Dean of Workforce Development & Continuing Education Jessica Seliger discussed prioritizing alignment between degree and non-degree pathways to education and employment opportunities. They provided an overview of the Academic Master Planning process, focusing on academic programs in the context of employment, enrollment, student success and educational trends.
The event concluded with a creative reflection exercise, led by Executive Chief of Staff & Special Advisor to the President Errol Olton, as participants wrote their aspirations for BCC’s future on colorful Post-it notes, envisioning how the College can move from the present toward its most aspirational future.
