Meet Everton Hunt-Brown: Designing a Future, One Circuit at a Time

“The ecosystems of resources like CARES, Career Development, and the Early Childhood Center show what’s possible when an institution doesn’t just admit students, but invests in them,” Hunt-Brown shared.
Everton’s own journey is a powerful example of that philosophy in action. A Bronx native, father, full-time worker, and student leader, he is currently pursuing an associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology at BCC, with plans to graduate in December 2026.
His relationship with the College began more than a decade ago. In 2011, Everton enrolled in a non-credit electrical immersion course at BCC, earning a certificate that helped him secure his first job in the solar energy field. That early opportunity sparked a career in electrical work, installing and maintaining complex systems across New York City.
Over time, Everton realized he wanted to do more than install systems – he wanted to design them. Returning to BCC has allowed him to take that next step. “On the job, I get the blueprints and follow the specs,” he explained. “What I want is to be part of the team that designs the system from the beginning – understanding the space, the scope, and how it all comes together.”
Beyond the classroom, Everton has become a familiar and respected presence on campus. He is an active member of the Male Empowerment Network, which he credits with helping him build meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and fellow students. He also serves as president of BCC’s Hip Hop Club – a newly chartered organization – and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community college students.
One of Everton’s greatest motivators is fatherhood. His four-year-old son attends BCC’s Early Childhood Center, enabling Everton to balance parenting and academics in one place. The Center, he said, has been a game changer. Knowing his son is safe, supported, and learning in a high-quality environment gives him the peace of mind he needs to focus on his studies. “I’m doing this for him,” Everton said.
While Everton’s long-term goals may include earning a bachelor’s degree, for now he is focused on finishing strong at BCC and continuing to build on the foundation he began years ago.
“The path isn’t always straight,” he reflected. “Sometimes it’s winding, and sometimes you double back. But if you know where you want to end up, and you stay open to learning along the way, you’ll get there.”
