The 2026 CUNY Frame Forward Student Video Festival honors the ties that bind us. Drawing inspiration from Maya Angelou’s poem, “The Human Family,” this year’s theme encourages CUNY students to uncover the echoes of similarity within our many differences. Through video, students are invited to illuminate the shared emotions, challenges, and hopes that unite their campus and community experiences.

Lorena De Miranda Marques, Co-Founder and Director of this initiative, will be visiting Bronx Community College to provide information and answer any questions.

Festival Theme: “We Are More Alike Than Unlike.”

Submission Details:
Free and open to all CUNY students—any major, any campus!

• Collaboration: Students may collaborate with other CUNY students, and each student must be credited for their role in the project. Collaboration with non-CUNY students is not permitted.
• Categories: Students from across The City University of New York can submit to the CUNY category. In addition, Best Video will be awarded to the video that most resonantly captures the edition’s theme, whatever its category or technique.
• Qualification: Students who have completed at least one class in Spring 2025, Summer 2025, Fall 2025, Winter 2026, or Spring 2026 are eligible to submit, even if they have finished their studies or graduated. Students must be in good academic standing.

Length: Videos must be at least 20 seconds long and no longer than 3 minutes.
Each student may submit only one video but may collaborate on other submissions.

Only the student who submits the video is eligible to receive the prize. Each winner will:

• Have their video screened at the Frame Forward Festival, to be held in Summer 2026 (date TBA) at City College of New York.
• Receive an FFSVF Trophy
• Receive an $800 gift
• Be Gifted a goody bag with items from the festival’s sponsors.

Regular Submission Deadline: April 10, 2026
